Colva Beach is famous for lazily swaying palm trees and glittering silvery
white sand. Located 6 km from Margao city in South Goa, it is described as
the pride of the state. It is second only to Calangute in popularity. This
Goa's longest beach has 20 km of virgin white sands, palm fringed and sun
drenched. Unique to this beach is that sand, sea and sky blend in enchanting
natural harmony is unspoilt by man. The best time to visit this place is
from December To February. Colva Beach can easily be described as a jewel in
Goa's crown of beaches. Only a few can rival its scenic splendour. Many
quality restaurants here in Colva serve a range of exotic cuisine and
quality accommodation is easily available nearby. It's very safe to swim at
this beach and visitors can really have a gala time at this beautiful place.

Attractions at/around Colva Beach
Benaulim Beach is just 2 km away from Colva. It's recognized as a
very peaceful and serene place. Interestingly Benaulim is still rather
undiscovered by domestic tourists even if it's a fishing beach. Colva beach,
Goa, is fairly crowded in evenings and on weekends. It gets fairly crowded
with local visitors getting off the buses 1 km away and pouring onto the
beach.
St John Church Baptist, situated on a hill beyond the village, is
worth visiting. When the monsoon arrives, Feast of St John the Baptist (Sao
Joao) is celebrated here as a thanksgiving. Young men wearing crowns of
leaves and fruits tour the area singing for gifts. Goans commemorate the
movement of St John in his mother's womb when he was in his mother's womb
and visited by Mary, the mother of Jesus, the young men of this village jump
in the wells.
There's yet another famous church at Colva -
Nossa Senhora de Merces
(Our Lady of Mercy) church. The church also gives you an opportunity to
participate in the Fama of Menino Jesuse (Child Jesus), which the Catholic
community has been celebrating since 17th century.

How To Reach Colva Beach (Rail/Road)

Regular bus services are available from Margao (also Madgaon, 6 km from
Colva) and Vasco da Gama. These buses depart from KTC bus stand, located 3
km north of Margao city. Some regular buses also ply from here to Colva,
Majorda, Benaulim and other nearby villages. You may also get Interstate bus
services from KTC bus stand. Tourists may also ply from nearest railway
station of Karmali, which is at a distance of 11 km from Panaji and at 39 km
from Colva.
